Home renovations are a great opportunity to make the home bigger or add those wish list items we’ve always wanted. Here’s a common question about adding a patio to your home.

Q: I have a flat area over living space and want to use it as patio space. How can I?

A flat roof on any building presents a great opportunity to expand usable space. A roof deck (roof-top patio) can be used for entertaining guests, relaxing in private, or as a rooftop garden. Planter boxes of any size and depth can be created and covered with DEC-K-ING vinyl membranes. These planter boxes can be used to plant vegetable gardens, bushes, plants, and even small trees. Patio chairs, tables, lawn chairs and even barbecues also add to the enjoyment and use of the deck. G.D.S. has developed an ‘ideal roof traffic’ system that easily transforms an unused roof surface into the perfect rooftop oasis. This is based on two key facts:

1. DEC-K-ING vinyl membranes are foremost a fully approved single ply roof system.
2. DEC-K-ING membranes are also engineered for pedestrian use of all sorts.

The transformation of an unused roof to a roof top patio is fairly simple with the our 60 mil vinyl membranes. The vinyl is fully adhered to the substrate, and any seams are permanently fused together with a hot air tool. Suitable substrates include plywood, concrete, metal, fiberglass or other flat non reactive substances. Contact us for a full list. In the case where reactive products are currently installed (ie: torch on), another layer of plywood can be added before the vinyl. View the installation section for step by step instructions on our vinyl installation.

I hope that helps
